<p>The singer Casandra Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs the day after the two allegedly had a decade-long sexual assault and beating. The settlement occurred one day after the complaint was filed.</p>
<p>“I have made the decision to settle this dispute peacefully under circumstances over which I have some influence. In a statement released on Friday night by her lawyer, Douglas Wigdor of Manhattan-based Wigdor Law, Ventura stated, “I want to thank my family, fans, and lawyers for their unwavering support,” according to variety.com.</p>
<p>Combs’ team described the lawsuit on Thursday as the result of a failed effort at coercion by a former girlfriend.</p>

<p>The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York received the lawsuit. It accuses Combs’s associates, including Bad Boy Records, of being involved in the alleged abuse. Epic Records is included in the list of defendants.</p>
<p>Wigdor commended Ventura “for having the strength to go public with her lawsuit” when she announced the settlement. She deserves praise for taking such action.</p>
<p>With only one week remaining before the Adult Survivors Act’s exemption from the statute of limitations ends on November 23, the lawsuit was filed.</p>
<p>Ben Brafman, Combs’ attorney, angrily refuted the accusations on Thursday. “Ms. Ventura has been pressuring Mr. Combs to pay her $30 million for the last six months, threatening to write a book about their relationship that would be detrimental. This demand was categorically denied as outright blackmail.”</p>
<p>“Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit filled with unfounded and outrageous claims, intending to damage Mr. Combs’s name and for financial gain, after retracting her earlier threat.”</p>
