Next week, the Congress is scheduled to have a large-scale pro-Palestine protest in Kozhikode, in north Kerala, after the Muslim League and the CPI(M). According to the Congress, the BJP-led Central government’s pro-Israel posture cannot be reversed by any other political party.

KPCC chairman K Sudhakaran said on Thursday that more than 50,000 Congress workers, who would be mobilized from Kozhikode and other districts, will take part in the November 23 protest.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-280667″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-congress-challenges-the-bjps-pro-israel-stance-as-it-prepares-for-a-sizable-pro-pa.png” alt=”theindiaprint.com congress challenges the bjps pro israel stance as it prepares for a sizable pro pa” width=”1494″ height=”997″ title=”Congress challenges the BJP's pro-Israel stance as it prepares for a sizable pro-Palestine rally in Kerala 6″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-congress-challenges-the-bjps-pro-israel-stance-as-it-prepares-for-a-sizable-pro-pa.png 640w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-congress-challenges-the-bjps-pro-israel-stance-as-it-prepares-for-a-sizable-pro-pa-150×100.png 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1494px) 100vw, 1494px” />

In a statement released here, Sudhakaran said, “All secular, democratic believers will attend the Congress-led rally at Kozhikode beach on November 23.” AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal is scheduled to open the solidarity rally, which will be attended by authors, artistic icons, and leaders from other socio-political domains.

The Congress action is a reaction to the governing CPI(M) in Kerala’s continuing pro-Palestine campaign. “The BJP government’s policies, which have taken a pro-Israel stance, can only be corrected by the Congress,” Sudhakaran said.

In contrast to what he saw as the CPI(M)’s “opportunistic campaigns exploiting the plight of the Palestinian people,” he emphasized the Congress’s longstanding solidarity with the Palestinian people. Sudhakaran said that the state government apparatus had helped the CPI(M) in its effort to disrupt the Congress’ Kozhikode gathering.

He said that the governing party was uneasy after the Congress’s Palestine solidarity session. The BJP-led NDA has chosen to host protest marches in four locations while the CPI(M), Congress, and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) hold pro-Palestine demonstrations in Kerala. They are being accused of pushing “communal and pro-terrorism” policies.

According to a BJP spokeswoman, there would be rallies in Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Ernakulam in addition to a public gathering in Pathanamthitta in two weeks. He had said on Monday that the saffron party intends to demonstrate against what it considers to be the Left government’s and the Congress’s “communal appeasement policies.”
