<p>The 1,875 candidates still in the race for the state’s November 25 assembly elections include Rajendra Rathore, Govind Singh Dotasara, Dr. B D Kalla, Vasundhara Raje, CP Joshi, Sachin Pilot, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. <p>There are eight current members of parliament competing: one from the RLP and seven from the BJP.</p>
<p>Along with the two main political parties, the Congress and the BJP, the 200 assembly seats are being contested by 188 candidates from the BSP, 87 from AAP, 77 from the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP), 5 from Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP), and 17 from CPI-M.</p>
<p>Ashok Gehlot of the Congress is running in the Sardarpura seat in Jodhpur, against Dr. Joshi of Nathdwara, Pilot of Tonk, Kalla of Bikaner-West, and Dotasara of Laxmangarh.</p>
<p>Rajya Sabha member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kirorilal Meena is running from the Sawaimadhopur assembly seat; Lok Sabha member Bhagirath Choudhary is running from the Kishangarh seat; Jhunjhjunu MP Narendra Kumar is running from the Mandawa seat; Rajsamand MP Diyakumari is running from Vidhyadhar Nagar in Jaipur city; Jaipur-Rural MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore will run from Jhotwara in Jaipur; and Jalore-Sirohi MP Devji Patel is running from Sanchore.</p>
<p>Former Jhalrapatan chief minister Raje of the BJP and opposition politician Rajendra Rathore are running from Taranagar in Churu district.</p>
<p>Hanuman Beniwal, a Lok Sabha MP and founding member of the RLP, is attempting to make a run from the Kheenvsar seat.</p>
<p>The Shiv Sena (Shinde group) is fielding Rajendra Singh Gudha, the ousted minister of the Congress who leaked the Red Diary in the assembly, from his former seat of Udaipurwati, where the Congress and the BJP filed their strongest candidates.</p>
<p>Congresswoman Harendra Mirdha will run against her niece Jyoti Mirdha, who just defected from the Congress and joined the BJP, in the Jat stronghold of Nagaur.</p>
<p>Rita Singh was nominated by the Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) of Harayna to challenge her ex-husband and departing Congress MLA Virendra Singh in the Danta Ramgarh constituency.</p>
<p>Shobharani Kushwah, a new addition to the Congress, will run against her brother-in-law, BJP candidate Shiv Charan Kushwah, in Dholpur.</p>
<p>Twenty candidates from various political families have been given a chance by the BJP, which has been outspoken in its criticism of “Pariwarvad” (nepotism) in politics. In contrast, the Congress, which has often been accused of being dynastic, has put forth 24 such candidates for election consideration.</p>
<p>Senior officials from the opposition and the governing Congress made every attempt, but were unable to convince dissident candidates to withdraw their candidacy papers. The official party candidates in 38 seats will face battle in triangles against a combined total of 22 dissident candidates from the BJP and 16 from the Congress.</p>
<p>Votes will be tallied on December 3 after polls close on November 25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.</p>
