Kerala Explosion: Allegedly Controversial Remarks Booked Union Minister Chandrasekhar

Police announced on Tuesday that a charge has been filed against Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar for allegedly uttering remarks that incite animosity amongst various communities.

In response to the minister’s recent remarks on social media about the Kochi bombings and a Hamas leader’s virtual speech at an event hosted by an Islamist organization in the state’s Malappuram district, the Kerala police independently filed a formal complaint.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-260390″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-70-hours-work-debate-harsh-goenka-says-hybrid-is-the-future-saying-5-day-office-we-1.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com 70 hours work debate harsh goenka says hybrid is the future saying 5 day office we 1″ width=”1227″ height=”687″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-70-hours-work-debate-harsh-goenka-says-hybrid-is-the-future-saying-5-day-office-we-1.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-70-hours-work-debate-harsh-goenka-says-hybrid-is-the-future-saying-5-day-office-we-1-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1227px) 100vw, 1227px” title=”Kerala Explosion: Allegedly Controversial Remarks Booked Union Minister Chandrasekhar 12″>

According to a senior Kochi city police officer, the minister has been the subject of a formal complaint under section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act (causing nuisance and violation of public order) and section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, and residence).

Following the disclosure of information on Sunday about bombings at a Jehovah’s Witness religious assembly in Kalamassery, near this location, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was targeted by Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Chandrasekhar on social media site X.

“A discredited chief minister (and head of state), @pinarayivijayan, is facing allegations of corruption. This is dirty, shameless appeasement politics.” Protesting against Israel while seated in Delhi, he had said, “Open calls for Jihad by Terrorist Hamas in Kerala are causing attacks and bomb blasts on innocent Christians.”

After this, the CM and Chandrasekhar engaged in a verbal sparring match on Monday, during which the BJP leader called Vijayan a “liar” and Chandrasekhar retaliated by calling the MoS “very venomous.”

The chief minister also said that lawsuits will be filed against anybody who makes remarks that are illegal, regardless of whether they are state or federal ministers.

The explosions happened on Sunday at a prayer meeting hosted by the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a Christian organization that was founded in the US in the 19th century, at a convention center in Kalamassery, close to Kochi.

A few hours later, Martin, claiming to be a split Jehovah’s Witness, turned himself in to authorities in the state’s Thrissur district, claiming to have been responsible for the several explosions.

At first, the explosions had claimed the life of one lady and left sixty wounded, six of them severely. A 53-year-old lady who was one of the six badly injured later passed away from her wounds. With the passing of a 12-year-old girl who had suffered 95% burns in the event, the death toll increased to three.
