<p>According to Xinhua news agency, Robert Card, 40, a member of the US Army Reserves, is suspected of opening fire at a restaurant and a bowling alley on Wednesday night, leaving at least 18 people dead and 13 wounded.</p>
<p>According to a representative of the Maine Department of Public Safety, the suspect was discovered dead on Friday night at 7:45 p.m. local time (2345 GMT) close to the Androscoggin River in Lisbon Falls, around 10 miles (16 km) from Lewiston. He seemed to have self-inflicted a gunshot wound.</p>
<p>Card has an arrest warrant for eight counts of murder, according to a statement made by the Maine State Police on Thursday.</p>
<p>Following the suspect’s death, local officials lifted the shelter-in-place order for nearby villages.</p>
<p>The White House said on Thursday that US President Joe Biden had ordered all US flags down to half-staff until Monday in remembrance of the victims and had called with state leaders to express his sympathy after the horrific murders.</p>
<p>The atrocity was the worst shooting in the US this year and the 565th in 2023, according to the nonprofit research organization Gun Violence Archive.</p>
<p>The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that Maine, a northern state with a population of around 1.3 million, has one of the lowest rates of murder in the nation.</p>
