<p>Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, and Member of Parliament, is being hosted by the O.P. Jindal Global University in association with ten top institutions in the US. This lecture series will address important issues relating to the Indian democracy after 75 years, the Indian Supreme Court after 75 years, and recent historic decisions on same-sex marriage.</p>
<p>In this lecture series, Singhvi, who is being hosted by JGU in the US, will speak at the most esteemed colleges and law schools in the country. The series began at the Seattle University School of Law in Seattle and continued at other law schools, including Harvard, Columbia, and the University of California at Berkeley.</p>
<p>“We at O.P. Jindal Global University and Jindal Global Law School are delighted to bring together the legal fraternity of both India and the US for a series of momentous lectures and dialogues,” said Professor C. Raj Kumar, who will be providing the commentary at these lecture events in the US. By working together with organizations that share our values, we want to advance international discourses that cut beyond national boundaries and foster a common understanding of the legal system. In addition to being a renowned attorney, Singhvi has worked in the legal, academic, political, media, and governance fields. He is an excellent scholar and an interesting public intellectual due to his comprehensive grasp of Indian law and legal institutions as well as his strong devotion to the rule of law and access to justice. We are really happy that Singhvi has created an endowment at JGU and works there as an honorary adjunct professor, encouraging and instructing our students.</p>
<p>The inaugural lecture, presented by the Seattle University Law School on “The Indian Supreme Court at 75: Protecting Rights, Expanding Freedoms and Empowering Citizens,” was one of ten held at colleges in six US locations. The RoundGlass India Centre at Seattle University then held a lecture titled “India at 75 & Beyond: Law, Politics and Governance in the World’s Largest Democracy” as a follow-up. The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University and the presentation entitled “Mediation in Emerging Markets Globally with a Focus on India: Addressing Access, Backlog, Cost and Delays (ABCD)” were both held in Los Angeles. The second talk was on “Protecting Human Rights & Preserving Civil Liberties: The Role of Courts in a Democracy” and was held at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law and The Promise Institute for Human Rights.</p>
<p>In the near future, lectures on “Protecting Human Rights & Preserving Civil Liberties: The Role of Courts in a Democracy” and “Same-Sex Marriage in India: In the Pursuit of Equality and Justice by the Supreme Court of India” will be held at the University of California Berkeley’s Institute of South Asia Studies and the California International Law Center, respectively.</p>
<p>Singhvi will give two lectures in Boston: the first at the Centre on Legal Profession, Harvard Law School, on “The Indian Supreme Court at 75: Protecting Rights, Expanding Freedoms, and Empowering Citizens,” and the second at the Fletcher Center for International Law & Governance of The Fletcher School, Tufts University. The first lecture is titled “India at 75: The Future of Law and Justice in the World’s Largest Democracy and its Foreign Policy Implications.”</p>
<p>The last event is “Same-Sex Marriage in India: In the Pursuit of Equality and Justice” at the American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. The final lectures are “Same-Sex Marriage in India: In the Pursuit of Equality and Justice by the Supreme Court of India” at Yeshiva University’s Cardozo School of Law and “The Indian Supreme Court at 75: Protecting Rights, Expanding Freedoms, and Empowering Citizenz” at Columbia Law</p>
<p>The Singhvi Endowment was formerly founded by Abhishek Manu Singhvi at O.P. Jindal Global University with the goal of giving law students the chance to get a top-notch legal education there.</p>
<p>anticipating this lecture series, I am really enthusiastic about the future talks here in the US, Singhvi said. It’s not only a privilege, but also an amazing journey of learning and cooperation for me to interact with different audiences and share my ideas on the Indian legal system. In the last 75 years, Indian democracy and jurisprudence have advanced significantly, and we have much to offer to the global conversation about law and justice.</p>
<p>This project is another step toward strengthening JGU’s connections with top institutions throughout the globe and its worldwide cooperation. In addition, this lecture series will make sure that American attorneys, academics, judges, students, and legal professionals and thought leaders have a forum for intellectual engagement on current legal topics.</p>
<p>Singhvi’s extensive background in law, politics, and public affairs will provide insightful viewpoints on a variety of legal issues, developing a better awareness of the global legal environment.</p>
<p>In addition, the occasion saw the official publication of the book “Court on Trial: A Data-Driven Account of the Supreme Court of India” by Penguin Random House India, which was co-authored by Professor Sital Kalantry, Associate Dean & Director, RoundGlass India Centre, Seattle University School of Law, in the distinguished presence of the Law School Dean, Professor Anthony E. Varona.</p>
<p>This lecture series, which demonstrates O.P. Jindal Global University and Jindal Global Law School’s dedication to fostering global partnerships and knowledge sharing, is a great honor for us to host. The institution is of the opinion that such activities are vital in creating a global perspective among legal practitioners and improving the legal community.</p>
