The Congress said on Monday that the Modi administration is growing the divide in the nation between the super-rich and the middle class. One of the central themes of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, that of rising income disparity, is confirmed by an examination of the publicly accessible data on income tax returns for the period 2013–14 to 2021–22, according to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-249543″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-live-in-relationships-are-more-of-an-infatuation-until-the-couple-decides-to-be-ma.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com live in relationships are more of an infatuation until the couple decides to be ma” width=”1406″ height=”876″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-live-in-relationships-are-more-of-an-infatuation-until-the-couple-decides-to-be-ma.jpg 284w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-live-in-relationships-are-more-of-an-infatuation-until-the-couple-decides-to-be-ma-150×93.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1406px) 100vw, 1406px” title=”Congress Criticizes the Administration for Income Inequality 12″>

He wrote on X that the Modi administration’s “widening gap between the ultra-rich and the middle class is more and more apparent.”

“This is evidence: In 2013–14, the richest 1% of income tax filers earned 17% of the total income. 1 percent of the population earned 23% of total income.

“In addition, the ultra-rich had income growth that was significantly quicker than that of the middle class. According to the Congress leader, the income of the top 1% of income tax payers increased at a rate of 13% per year from 2013–14 to 2021–22, which is a staggering 60% quicker than the income of the bottom 25% of tax payers.

According to Ramesh, after accounting for inflation, the bottom 25 percent of tax payers received less real income in 2022 than they did in 2019.

“From Rs 3.8 lakh crore in FY19 to Rs 3.4 lakh crore in FY22, the gross income of the bottom 25% decreased by 11%. The top 1%’s actual income increased by 30% from Rs 7.9 lakh crore in FY19 to Rs 10.2 lakh crore in FY22. Figures are reliable. Only the Prime Minister, he said, does.

The Congress has claimed that the economic gap between the wealthy and the poor has widened over the last several years.
