According to the Kerala government, the IT company run by the daughter of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan correctly paid the appropriate Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) for her commercial dealings with a private mining company situated in Kochi.

A heated debate concerning financial transactions between T Veena, Vijayan’s daughter, and the mines business sparked the government’s explanation.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-248610″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-cristiano-ronaldo-rewinds-time-with-stunning-freekick-goal-against-damac-for-al-na.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com cristiano ronaldo rewinds time with stunning freekick goal against damac for al na” width=”1229″ height=”688″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-cristiano-ronaldo-rewinds-time-with-stunning-freekick-goal-against-damac-for-al-na.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-cristiano-ronaldo-rewinds-time-with-stunning-freekick-goal-against-damac-for-al-na-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1229px) 100vw, 1229px” title=”Kerala Government: CM's Daughter's IT Company Paid IGST for Transactions with Minerals Company 3″>

Mathew Kuzhalnadan, a Congress MLA who had accused Veena of corruption, was notified by the Department of State Goods and Services Tax on Saturday that the case had been confirmed.

Kuzhalnadan had alleged wrongdoing in the deal involving Veena’s business and the mining company situated in Kochi.

He had inquired about Veena’s payment of IGST for the more than Rs 1 crore in payments from the mining firm.

Additionally, he recently asked for a watchdog investigation into the corruption claims.

The state tax office wrote to the congressman to advise him that, upon verification, it was discovered that Veena’s firm had remitted the IGST for the sum she had been paid by Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd.

The short letter, however, omitted any other information, including the amount of tax she had paid.

According to local sources, K N Balagopal, the finance minister, has already received a report on this issue from the GST Commissioner.

Recent financial transactions between Veena and her IT business and the private mining company situated in Kochi have caused controversy in Kerala.

There was evidence that the business had connections to senior figures in both the CPI(M), which is in power, and the UDF, which is in opposition and is run by Congress.

The matter surfaced when a Malayalam newspaper revealed that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd gave the chief minister’s daughter a total of Rs 1.72 million between 2017 and 2020.

The news article said that the Kochi-based business formerly had a contract with Veena’s IT firm for consultation and software support services, citing a decision of an Interim Board for Settlement.

The money was paid on a monthly basis “due to her relationship with a prominent person” even though her business provided no services, according to the newspaper, which cited the deposition of the mining company officials before the Income Tax Department.

Vijayan, however, denied the accusations and said they were manufactured to harm his reputation and discredit him.
